Privacy Policy
How NetSeal handles personal information from the NetSeal browser-based measurement app.
Last updated: 15 July 2026
NetSeal is an independent measurement service, not connected to any ISP, regulator, or industry vendor. This privacy policy explains what information we collect through the NetSeal browser-based measurement app (the “App”), why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have.
Please read this policy carefully. We may change this policy from time to time by updating this page.
Who we are
For the purposes of UK data protection law, NetSeal is responsible for personal information collected through the App when you choose to share it with us.
You can contact us using the form on the Contact page of the NetSeal website.
What information do we collect?
When you sign up for our measurement service, you share your email address with us so that we can send you a personalised URL (a page on our website that is specifically created only for your use of the App).
The additional information you share at sign up depends on the purpose for which the App has been configured:
home broadband - home wifi - mobile data - postcode
Home Broadband - you select the name of your internet service provider, the “up to speed” that your broadband service operates at, and whether you use ethernet or wifi for your device to connect to your broadband service
Home Wifi - you select the type of room in your home, and whether you use ethernet or wifi for your device to connect to your broadband service
Mobile Data - you select the name of your mobile service provider, and the technology generation (4G or 5G) that you use with your device
Postcode - you enter the postcode district and the postcode key that was supplied on the leaflet we door-dropped to you
We also collect the IP address of the device you are using to interact with our website and App.
If you purchase a license key so that you can run your own measurement league, you will be making use of our on-line shop that is hosted by payhip(and they have their own privacy policy which you should also read). When you use our website to register your own measurement league, you enter the license key and you share the email address you used when you purchased the license key so that we can verify the license key using payhip’s API, and send to you by email your league's sign up URL.
How do we use personal data?
We use the email address that you shared to provide you with URLs that link to the App on our website.
We use your IP address so that our servers can interact with the device running your browser in order to supply our measurement service capability to you.
When do we share personal data?
We do not sell your personal data, nor do we sell any of the additional information you share with us when you sign up for use of the App.
We only share your email address and your IP address with trusted service partners who help us host our servers and operate email.
The additional information you share with us when you sign up for use of the App is only used to populate various columns in the league tables we produce to summarise the measurements that we analyse for you as part of our service to you. Those league tables do not include your email address or your IP address, and hence do not contain any personal data. Instead, to identify each player, there is a jumble of alpha-numeric characters that forms part of each personalised URL. Only you know that this unique jumble of characters relates to your measurements. League tables are automatically shared among all participants who have signed up in the league.
We will only share personal data where required to comply with our legal obligations, to protect our legal rights, or to protect the security of our systems.
For how long do we keep your personal data?
It costs us to keep data on our servers, so we only keep a record of your personal data and associated measurement results data for three months, after which it is deleted from our servers.
Your choices and rights
If you want us to delete your personal data and associated measurement results data earlier than three months, please let us know using the contact form.
To access your personal data and associated measurement results data, you use the App. This displays your IP address, and the additional information you shared when you signed up is displayed in your row of the relevant league table.
To rectify your personal data or any of the additional information you supplied, we can only do this by deleting your current email address and associated measurement results from the league to which you signed up, and then you can sign up again with your rectified data and/or additional information. Please let us know using the contact form, and include the relevant App URLs so that we can identify the records that should be deleted.
Analytics and tracking
The App contains no cookies, no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software. It does not track you across other apps or websites, and it does not show you adverts.
The only information that leaves your device is what is described in this policy, along with the measurements taken by your browser as part of the App’s operation.
